Expectations and Professional Responsibilities of REALTORS®
Professional Standards - Realtor® Adherence
The REALTOR® Code of Ethics spells out the professional responsibilities and expectations of all REALTOR® members to their clients, customers, fellow REALTORS® and the general public. REALTOR® Associations are responsible to enforce the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.
The Eastern Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors® enforcement is administered by the Tennessee REALTORS®. The Tennessee REALTORS® will oversee the Grievance, Arbitration and Professional Standards Processes which includes ethics and arbitration complaints, mediation and ombuds services. You can file a complaint online.
Both the Public and Realtor® members are encouraged to use this resource.
Not all real estate licensees are REALTORS® so they are not under the same requirement to abide by the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. So make sure you ask the question “Are you a Realtor®?” If they answer YES, then you have the reassurance that this professional abides by a strict Code of Ethics.
